SALT LAKE CITY -- A man drove his car into a canal near the Jordan River Sunday evening.
At the time of the accident, near California Avenue and Redwood Road, Salt Lake City police say 24-year-old Jesus Lopez was drunk and upset over the death of a friend.
Lopez managed to escape unharmed but was still taken to the hospital for an evaluation. No one else was in the vehicle.
Because of the high and fast moving water, firefighters estimate the car is about a mile down the river. Crews will pull the car out once the conditions calm down.
