SALT LAKE CITY -- A plea deal has been reached in the case of a teen involved in a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Sears store in downtown Salt Lake.

Prosecutors amended first-degree counts of aggravated murder and attempted murder to second-degree attempted murder in exchange for Alexis Rodriguez's guilty plea.

Rodriguez did not fire the shot that killed 16-year-old Diego Mendoza last July, but he encouraged the shooter, his cousin, to do it.

He will be sentenced next month and faces up to 15 years in prison.
