STICK THE FINISH — Stumbling in a track and field event seldom ends well, but for Oregon high schooler Brooklyn Anderson, it gave her a moment to show off some hidden tumbling skills.
The gymnast-turned-hurdler had a solid lead in the 100-meter state championship race at Hayward Field in Eugene when she tripped just before the finish line. Her instincts kicked in and she turned the stumble into a somersault as she rolled across the finish line in first place.
"I wasn't sure how far back everybody else was behind me, so I knew to just keep rolling, to keep going, because I really wanted to get first," the Thurston High junior told The Oregonian.
