SALT LAKE CITY — The second of four men accused of firing multiple rounds at an occupied house in January, where a birthday party was being held, has been arrested.
The incident also resulted in one of the four suspected gunmen being shot and killed by one of his friends, according to police.
Isidore Junior Barrera, 20, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of firing 20 shots at another person.
About 2:40 a.m. on Jan. 14, police were called to the area of 800 South and 300 East on a report of shots fired and that one man may be deceased. Officers arrived and found Gabriel Isidore Vigil, 18, on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head.
"Lying next to the victim, a pistol magazine was located containing at least two live cartridges. At least 12 bullet casings were located in and around the street. Furthermore, several gunshot impacts were located on two parked vehicles and a white wooden fence," according to a police booking affidavit.
Salt Lake police questioned several people who said there was a birthday party happening inside one of the nearby residences, which was an AirBnB rental. Witnesses told investigators an argument and fight broke out during the party between a 17-year-old girl and a man.
"Witnesses stated that the female juvenile was kicked out of the party, and before leaving, she threatened (them) by saying things like, 'Wait and see what happens.' Witnesses stated that shortly after this, shots were fired from outside toward the house," the affidavit states.
Detectives collected surveillance video from a nearby apartment complex showing a dark sedan drive past the AirBnB and stopping, then four men getting out and walking toward the house, the affidavit says.
"All four males raise handguns and begin to fire toward the house as they begin to run westbound. As the four males run and continue to fire, one of the males (Vigil) gets hit by gunfire from the male running and firing directly in front of him. This wounded male (Vigil) fell directly to the ground where he was located by police just minutes later," according to the affidavit.
Officers tracked down a woman who owned the car the men were in. She said "the boys' plan was to beat up and carjack someone at the party who threatened" the sister of one of the men, the affidavit alleges.
Investigators believe the four men — including Vigil — fired at least 18 rounds. But Vigil "was hit by friendly fire," and died after being shot twice, according to the affidavit.
"This case is related to rival gang members," police said.
On Feb 2, Salt Lake City police say a 16-year-old boy believed to be one of the four gunmen was arrested. The search for the fourth gunman continued Thursday.
Earlier, officers arrested Tommi Tiara Jude Gallegos, 23, for investigation of obstruction of justice involving the same incident.
