SALT LAKE CITY — One person has been arrested by Salt Lake police and accused of withholding information about a deadly weekend shooting.
About 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Gabriel Vigil, 18, was shot and killed near 300 East and 800 South. He was found on the sidewalk outside a residence. The gunman then drove away from the scene.
"Several shell casings were observed in the area, as well as bullet strikes on a nearby fence, bullet strikes on the residence at 368 E. 800 South, and bullet strikes on multiple vehicles parked along the roadway. Multiple witnesses were contacted by officers who stated they observed several people running out of the residence at 368 E. 800 South with some going over to the body, some leaving in vehicles, and some running back into the residence," according to a police booking affidavit.
Salt Lake police questioned several people who said there was a birthday party happening inside the residence, which was an AirBnB rental. Witnesses told investigators that an argument and fight broke out during the party.
"These witnesses described a male arguing with a female and kicking her out of the party. This female was making threats as if she was going to get someone to get back at this male. The witnesses then described this same male inside the party arguing with his girlfriend and physically assaulting her, then physically assaulting another female at the party. The witnesses state the male leaves with his group of other males," according to the affidavit.
Tommi Tiara Jude Gallegos, 23, claimed she and her sister were inside the residence when the shooting occurred, even though other witnesses told police they were outside the house, the affidavit states. Some people also told police that Gallegos and her sister were hosting the party and know the man and woman involved in the fight.
"It is clear and apparent from witnesses interviewed at the party, as well as witnesses in the area," that Gallegos is making false statements, police wrote in the arrest report, and that she is "withholding information pertaining to a homicide."
Gallegos was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of obstructing justice.
