CHARLESTON, Wasatch County — U.S. 189 was briefly closed in both directions near Deer Creek Reservoir due to a "police incident," according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

UDOT said in a social media post at 12:23 p.m. that the highway was closed in both directions just south of Charleston in Wasatch County.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Bishop said troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash just after noon, but the car fled when troopers arrived.

The fleeing vehicle was disabled using a maneuver that caused the vehicle to spin out, and troopers took the driver into custody. The cause of the crash is under investigation and troopers say intoxication is a possible factor.

The highway reopened about 12:30 p.m., Bishop said.
