MORGAN — A motorcyclist died Sunday when he crashed on state Route 66 in Morgan County.
The crash happened around noon just west of East Canyon Reservoir. Utah Highway Patrol trooper Luis Silva said the motorcyclist, a 25-year-old male, was attempting to pass another vehicle in an area he wasn't supposed and he lost control.
The vehicle went off the roadway to the left onto a rocky shoulder, then crossed back over the road to the right, where it left the roadway, went down an embankment and was thrown about 70 feet, the Utah Highway Patrol said. Silva said the driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
The road was closed for a short time for a medical helicopter to land but has since reopened.
Police have not released the name of the motorcyclist.
Correction: A previous version incorrectly stated the crash happened on U.S. Highway 66, rather than state Route 66.
