MOM'S HOUSE — When you're a kid, it's really easy to take your parents for granted.
I mean, I always loved my mom and thought I was grateful for her, but it wasn't until I moved out of the house that I realized how much she did for me. She worked full time, traveled a lot and eventually started her own business. But somehow she still made me breakfast every morning, would make us dinner almost every night and even made it to all of my sporting and other school events.
Then on top of that, she and my dad worked hard in their jobs to make sure my siblings and I had what we needed. They sacrificed so much to make sure we had a roof over our heads and clothes on our backs. It also didn't help I was as big, or bigger than my older brother, so hand-me-downs didn't fit me. They bought us cleats and other gear for sports. Yes, they often came from thrift stores, but we always had them.
My parents did, and still do so much for me that I realized I can never repay them. Not even close.
When I was a kid, I always told my parents I'd buy them a house when I was a star pitcher for the Chicago Cubs. In case you can't tell, I never made it there. And while I'm grateful to write these articles and I love it, the gig doesn't pay as well as being a professional athlete does.
No, I never got to buy my mom a house. But former University of Utah safety and current Super Bowl champion Terrell Burgess did live out the dream of buying his mom a new car.
This fantastic video shows the moment when the Los Angeles Rams' safety surprises his mom with the new ride. She can't believe it and Burgess is clearly excited to give her the gift. It feels like he turns back into a third-grader, excited to give mom the ceramic mess he made in art class for Mother's Day.
Congratulations on the big win, Burgess, and thanks for being nice to your mom. She, like all moms, deserves it.
