SALT LAKE CITY — A local car dealership provided Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of Utah veterans.

It was Ken Garff Automotive Group's way of saying, "Thank you for your service."

The event happened Tuesday at the Utah Department of Veterans & Military Affairs.

Thanksgiving is still weeks away, but they wanted to make sure veterans and their families have what they need come Nov. 26.

Turkeys with all the fixings, including pumpkin pie, are going to 500 Utah veteran families.

The meals were handed out by Ken Garff employees who bought and assembled each red bag on Monday with everything needed for a complete Thanksgiving meal.

The generous donation is all all part of Ken Garff's "We're Hear for You" project from 21 dealerships to buy from local businesses and give back to local community members. The goal is to help ease the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic and to honor our veterans.

"It feels amazing," said Brian King with Ken Garff Automotive Group. "We have such a sense of gratitude towards our community – especially our veterans."

"It's awesome," said Army Veteran Brian Lang. "I'm in the homeless program here. I lost my job because of the pandemic here at the VA, so I'm just struggling, and this just is great."

In total, four dealerships put together 125 bags that were handed out through Tuesday afternoon.
