WEST VALLEY CITY — A man wanted in Georgia for allegedly killing one person and critically injuring another has been arrested in Utah.

The U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team on Wednesday arrested Khalid Mahamed Hirmoge, 29, of Atlanta, in West Valley City.

On June 26, Hirmoge “shot two people, killing one and substantially wounding the other” in a nightclub in Decatur, Georgia, according to a police affidavit. After the shooting, Hirmoge moved to Utah and enrolled at the C.R. England Truck Driving School, 4701 W. 2100 South, the affidavit states.

Members of the strike team conducted surveillance on the school on Wednesday and took Hirmoge into custody without incident, according to the affidavit.

The arrest was the latest in a recent string of homicide suspects being tracked down and arrested by VFAST in 2020.

The unit is a joint task force consisting of officers from more than 20 local, state and federal agencies in Utah.

On June 26, the task force arrested Edwin Carrillo, 41, of West Valley City, in connection with the shooting death of a homeless man.

On June 7, the team arrested Brandon Keith Burr, 38, at a Salt Lake hotel. He was wanted in Tooele for investigation of killing another man and dumping his body in a remote area.

“During the arrest, officers located several firearms and over 300 rounds of ammunition,” the task force stated.

On May 19, the task force arrested Deivi Prado Perez, 17, who was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at a park.

In April, the team with the assistance of U.S. Marshals in California arrested Albert Enoch Johnson, 31, who was wanted in connection with the killings of a West Jordan couple.

And on March 30, the team arrested Derek Algernon Little, 35, who was wanted for investigation of murder in Millcreek.

“The number of homicides we have assisted with during the last two months is unprecedented,” U.S. Marshal for Utah Matthew Harris said in a prepared statement.
