Knolls Fire in Saratoga Springs suspected to be human-caused

The 12,977-acre Knolls Fire, which caused thousands of evacuations in Saratoga Springs over the weekend, was human-caused, according to fire officials. Investigators have not determined the exact cause of the blaze, but have ruled out lightning. By 6:20 p.m., the fire was 75% contained. As of 9:20 p.m., a total of 13 engines, one watertender, four 20-person crews, and three helicopters were fighting the fire, which was smoldering. A total of 235 personnel were responding to the blaze.

City officials are also asking people to help fill sandbags, which will be placed throughout the city for post-wildfire flooding mitigation. People can pick up sandbags at the City South Marina at 156 Harbor Park Way, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 88 W. Harbor Park Way, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2947 S. Swainson Avenue, city officials said. City residents are asked to help their neighbors place sandbags to protect areas that are vulnerable to flooding, such as near homes that are on the mountainside. The city has a good supply of sandbags that are already filled. City officials will let residents know if there is a need to fill more sandbags.

Power Line Fire burning near Mona 703 acres, 50% contained

The Power Line Fire, burning southwest of Mona, was mapped at 703 acres on Tuesday and 50% contained, fire officials reported. Several hot spots were still burning on the western flank of the fire, officials noted. The fire began on Monday afternoon and its cause was not immediately known. — Lauren Bennett, KSL.com

Rock Path Fire now 90% contained

The Rock Path Fire, which ignited five days ago, is now 90% contained, federal fire officials said Tuesday afternoon. That fire, in combination with the Antelope Fire, has held at just under 21,000 acres. No structures are threatened, and there are no evacuations or closures in place. A total of 106 personnel are working on the fire, officials said. — Xoel Cardenas, KSL.com

Lightning-caused Canal Fire grows to 66K acres in central Utah

The lightning-caused Canal Fire, burning north of Oak City in Millard County, has grown to 66,653 acres, federal fire officials reported Tuesday. The fire was last reported Monday at about 30,000 acres in size. As of Tuesday, it is 10% contained. Ten fire crews, 11 engines and four helicopters are fighting the blaze, which has been experiencing extreme fire behavior with wind-driven runs over the past several days.

Fire crews are making progress on some interior pockets of the fire that are still active. Helicopters have been making water drops on areas of the fire in the Gilson Range, and crews will be assessing the Narrows Canyon area Tuesday to determine the next steps for that area. — Jacob Klopfenstein, KSL.com

Knolls Fire in Saratoga Springs now 31% contained

After leading to thousands of evacuations over the weekend, the Knolls Fire in Saratoga Springs is now 31% contained, state and federal fire officials reported Tuesday through Utah Fire Info. The fire is estimated at about 13,000 acres, according to Saratoga Springs City officials. Ground crews, as well as helicopters, bulldozers and fire engines will continue fighting the fire and working to contain the perimeter on Tuesday, officials said. All Bureau of Land Management areas in and around the fire area are closed until further notice while crews fight the blaze, officials said.
