EAGLE MOUNTAIN — One man was airlifted to the hospital Sunday morning after he was struck by lightning in Eagle Mountain.
He was knocked unconscious after the lightning struck behind him about 10 a.m. while walking on a trail near Orrin Circle, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. His wife, who was with him at the time, was "also impacted but not seriously," Cannon wrote on Twitter.
Intermountain Life Flight flew the man to the hospital, and he is expected to survive, Cannon said.
"Another couple walking nearby saw the lightning strike right behind where the man was," he said. Cannon said the man regained consciousness and was talking, but was having problems moving.
"There was some serious concern for him," Cannon said. "To say he's lucky to be alive is probably an understatement."
Severe thunderstorms shook the Wasatch Front throughout Sunday morning.
