SALT LAKE CITY — FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention organizers are hoping to lure you into their web this fall with a major star.

Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man in Marvel’s current iteration of the franchise, will appear at FanX’s fall event, Sept. 6-7, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, the organization announced Tuesday.

The British actor most recently appeared in “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which debuted in July and has become the most successful “Spider-Man” film so far at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

FanX co-founder and producer Dan Farr said FanX organizers have tried to get Holland to come to Utah in the past but the timing didn't line up until now. In addition to being a superstar, Holland has a reputation of being a nice, genuine person, Farr said.

"He’s popular and has great celebrity cred, but he also is a wonderful person so we feel very lucky to get him," he said.

Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland has starred in “The Impossible” and “The Lost City of Z.”

He also has a recent connection to Utah in the form of a collaboration with Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, whose nickname is "Spida." Holland and Mitchell appeared together in an advertisement for Mitchell's new line of Adidas shoes last month.

Part of what attracted Holland to come to Utah is the reputation of the fans who come to FanX, Farr said. The "word on the street" is that Utahns who come to FanX are amazing, he said, which helps convince big names to come here.

"Celebrities come here, they have a good time, and fans treat them well," Farr said. "Everything kind of came together perfectly for this event, and we just feel so fortunate that (Holland) is going to come to Salt Lake," Farr said.

Other guests already set to appear at FanX’s fall event include “Addams Family” star Christina Ricci, “Harry Potter” actor Jason Isaacs and “Rocky” actor Dolph Lundgren.

Farr said FanX organizers plan to announce many more guests in the weeks leading up to the convention.

He said organizers plan to cover all the different fandom bases with programming at the convention, such as celebrity panels.

"We expect this event to be our best yet," he said.
