PROVO — A 27-year-old woman has died after she was shot in the head in Provo on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The woman, whom police identified as Freya Larsen, was taken to Utah Valley Hospital but later died from her injury, Provo police said.

The shooting took place about 4 p.m. near 334 E. Center Street, according to Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King.

A 27-year-old man called police to report the shooting, King said. He is a "person of interest" in the case and is currently in police custody, the sergeant added.

Police don't know the relationship between Larsen and the shooter, King said.

Some lanes of Center Street were blocked between 300 East and 400 East while police investigated the shooting. Traffic was able to get through, but people were being asked to avoid the area if possible.

No other details were immediately released about the incident.
