BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The University of Colorado says the Dalai Lama has canceled a planned visit next month for medical reasons.

In a statement Friday, the university says that the Office of Tibet in Washington, D.C. informed officials that he won't be able to attend any of his planned events in the United States and that he will be returning to India next week.

The announcement came a day after news that the Dalai Lama was visiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for a medical evaluation.

He was set to speak at the University of Utah Oct. 18. Tickets for the event sold out in minutes within becoming available. The U. confirmed its event was canceled and that ticket holders would be notified.
