NEW YORK (AP) — Ratings are down for the annual Tony Awards, which reached an estimated 6.35 million viewers on CBS Sunday night.
The Nielsen company said Monday the viewership is down from the previous two years, which both exceeded 7 million. The awards in 2012 reached just over 6 million, with the 5.7 million viewers in 2007 the smallest audience for the show since at least 1988, when more reliable statistics became available.
The lesbian coming-of-age story "Fun Home" won the Tony for best musical on Broadway's biggest night on Sunday, with "The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-time" winning best play.
Nielsen numbers are based on a quick overnight estimate and are sometimes adjusted later.
