ELY, Nev. — Officials believe a man wanted in connection with killing his wife and lighting their house on fire was found dead Tuesday.

The White Pine County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Bruce Hendrix, 63, after his wife was found dead and their home was lit on fire. Around 7 p.m. Monday, the White Pine County Sheriff's Office found Julia Hendrix, 57, dead in a bedroom. She had been shot once in the chest.

Accelerants were poured throughout the home and it was lit on fire, the sheriff’s office said. Neighbors told officials they saw Bruce Hendrix leave in his truck just before the fire. The sheriff’s office began searching for Bruce Hendrix and put up wanted fliers.

Several hunters from Las Vegas were hunting in a remote area near Ely when they saw a brown two-toned 1998 Chevrolet truck with a camper shell, according to Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee. The hunters later saw a flier in an Ely store with a picture of truck matching the vehicle they had seen and they reported it to the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office.

Thursday morning, deputies from the White Pine Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area where the truck was discovered. The deputies discovered the body of a man they believe is Bruce Hendrix, Lee said.

A rifle was located and officials determined the man had died by suicide, Lee said.

“It’s very unfortunate,” Lee said. “I was concerned it would end this way.”

White Pine County Sheriff Dan Watts said Hendrix had no criminal history and there were no reports of abuse in the home. Watts said Julia Hendrix had filed for divorce just days before her death.
