SALT LAKE CITY — Police say they have found the rental vehicle driven by a woman possibly connected to a California man shot and killed by police last week.
Early Friday, Christopher Leo Knight, 34, was shot and killed by two Salt Lake City police officers after he allegedly opened fire on them, striking both officers. Mo Tifisi, a nine-year veteran with the department, and Dan Tueller, an officer who has been on the force for 18 months, were rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.
The next day, police announced they were looking for Melissa Medina, 36, a woman who may have been with Knight just a few days earlier. Detectives believe she may have been staying in a Salt Lake-area motel and driving a silver or gray Hyundai Elantra with Washington state license plate AMR2513.
On Monday, Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Robin Heiden announced that the rental car had been found, but Medina still had not been located.
Anyone with information on Medina is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
