SALT LAKE CITY — The SLC Comic Com opens Thursday at the Salt Palace Convention Center downtown. If you have already donned a costume and are sitting at your house waiting for the hours to draw closer to when the doors open, you probably already have your tickets.

For the rest of you still on the fence of whether you want to attend, here are a few things you can expect at the convention that might sway you into joining the festivities.

Guest Appearances

The headliners for Comic Con are more than just pretty faces; they will be on-hand at the convention to answer fan questions, pose for photos and look generally awesome. The celebrity list includes original Batman actor Adam West, Henry Winkler, Manu Bennett of "The Hobbit" fame, William Shatner of William Shatner fame and an amazing last minute appearance by none other than Stan Lee himself.

Lee, former president and chairman of Marvel Comics, will make an appearance Saturday, organizer Dan Farr said. The famed name in American comics has brought to life beloved Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and The X-Men.

"He'll actually be able to come in very quickly and meet some fans, make an appearance, and people can buy autographs or buy photo ops," Farr said. "It's going to be a great experience, and then he can go home and sleep in his own bed."

Some of the guest celebrities will be presenting information at panels, while others will be working the crowd and posing with fans for photos. Be aware though, some of the photo ops will cost many green ones, especially for the bigger names.

Panelists

Many people in the movie and television industry, as well as those who are just interested in learning some insider information about their favorite pop culture celebrity, will benefit from attending a panel discussion. Panels will give audience members a chance to ask questions of their favorite stars, as well as listen in on backstage information not readily available to the public.

Cosplay

Nothing beats a bunch of adults in costumes looking completely amazing. If you really want to rock Comic Con, you'd better already have your outfit picked out. Costumes are a huge part of comic conventions. If you are fan of Batman, dress up as the caped avenger. Or don't because Batman is a super popular character and there will be a million Batmans flying around. Get creative and figure out a costume that will really set you apart.

SLC Comic Con has for cosplay listed on their website. Here are a few:

  • Keep it PG. Cover up your body parts.
  • No metal costume weapons are permitted. Costume weapons must be constructed of lightweight material like foam or cardboard.
  • Military uniforms are fine, but don't make your law enforcement get-ups too authentic. Keep it comical at Comic Con.
  • Get creative! There are a few scheduled costume contests throughout the convention.

Tickets are still available for the entire weekend or just for a single day. For more information about the SLC Comic Con, go to the convention's website.
