METROPOLIS/GOTHAM — San Diego’s 2013 Comic-Con wrapped up Sunday, leaving behind a trail of movie rumors relating to everything from “The Hunger Games” to a revealing title for the next Avengers adventure — “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

But one rumor seemed to float above tales of Warcraft movies and electrified Spider-Man villains. In fact, one rumor seemed to catch the media’s attention like a stenciled spotlight tattooing an evening cloud.

During a Warner Brothers Comic-Con panel discusssion, it was announced that Zack Snyder, David S. Goyer and leading actor Henry Cavill would return for a second “Man of Steel” film. That much was already interesting, considering the first outing didn’t pull in the revenue or the critical acclaim WB was hoping for. However, the quote that was read to the audience while Snyder took the stage elevated the news to show-stopper status.

“I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember your hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the quote, it comes from the Frank Miller graphic novel, “The Dark Knight Returns,” in which an older Bruce Wayne comes out of retirement, and among other things, goes toe-to-toe as Batman with a weakened Superman.

Snyder then went on to say, “We’re not adapting this thing, but it is the thing that will help us tell that story.”

The release date was announced for the summer of 2015, along with the unveiling of a new logo. Casting for Batman and details surrounding just how much of the graphic novel will make it to the screen are still under wraps, but the film will most likely be used as a gateway to the ever-rumored “Justice League” movie.

Personally, with how inferior and pathetic they made humankind seem in the last movie, I’ll be excited to see the caped crusader give Superman a quick kick to the chops. Sure, I want the two to high five in the end and start hanging out at cafés, but before that, at least one kick.
