SALT LAKE CITY — When Nate and Jen Wilkey suggested their children build a Mormon temple out of LEGO blocks for a Sunday night activity, they didn't imagine it would turn into a publicized project and popular blog.
The Deseret News reports the family began by constructing a replica of the Laie Hawaii Temple last fall as a way to entertain their three children — ages 8, 10, and 13. The project was a success, so the Wilkey children each got white LEGO blocks for Christmas.
After building a few more temples, the family began a blog called Build in Holy Places, "Our family's journey to build the temples of the world brick by brick."
The blog's name was inspired by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' 2013 mutual theme.
"We want to help (our children) learn to love the temple and also to create a good atmosphere of strengthening and enjoying each other," Jen Wilkey told the Deseret News.
The family also started a Facebook page in April.
Their goal is to build replicas of all the LDS temples in the world. Those they have completed so far include:
