(KSL News) The Kearns Recreation Center soon could be renamed for late state Senator Ed Mayne.

The Salt Lake County Council will discuss the name change next week, but it is likely to be approved.

Mayne was instrumental in the building of the center, lobbying on the hill to get money from the general fund for its construction.

Mayne served in the state Senate for 12 years. He died on Sunday from complications of lung cancer.
