TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- Construction has begun on a new jail in Tooele County.

The Tooele Transcript-Bulletin reports that county officials used gold ceremonial shovels to break ground on the site of the new 264-bed facility last week.

The 72,000-square-foot Tooele County Detention Center is expected to be complete by the end of the year. The county is financing the construction with $25 million in bonds.

Sheriff Frank Park says he's pressed for the jail for several years. The current jail has just 104 beds.

County officials contracted with GSBS Architects of Salt Lake City and Bountiful-based Sahara Construction to design and build the facility.
