Sam Penrod Reporting A Centerville man suspected of assault is shot and killed by police when he pulls a rifle on officers. The man was shot early this morning inside the bedroom of his home. Police say instead of giving up, he grabbed a rifle out of a closet.

The suspect in this case was wanted for questioning in a simple assault case from last night. But for some reason police say he ran back into the house and grabbed a rifle and pointed it at officers.

Police showed up to the house and talked to the suspect's girlfriend about getting him to talk to officers. Officers went inside to talk to the man, but police say the suspect ran into a bedroom and grabbed a gun.

Police are not saying a lot right now as to what the suspect's state of mind was and why he resisted their efforts to talk to him on what was a relatively minor crime.
