PROVO -- The man accused on a brutal beating and sexual assault in Provo last month was formally charged Wednesday.
Shawn Michael Leonard, 33, now faces charges of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
Prosecutors also plan to charge him with escape for walking away from a jail work detail.
Leonard was in jail on a theft charge before escaping not long before the June 10 attack on a Utah Valley University student.
