SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has signed a bill into law that limits access to rivers and streams that cross private land.
The legislation allows landowners to post signs and close off access to the waterways unless that area has been open for public use for 10 consecutive years since 1982.
Sportsmen unsuccessfully lobbied Herbert to veto the bill.
In a statement Wednesday, Herbert said he urges private property owners to be generous in allowing access.
