Woman trying to change Bluffdale animal torture laws

A Bluffdale resident says some horse owners are getting away with torture because of outdated laws.

Jody Tuft says one of her neighbors was starving his horses, and Bluffdale City told her they could do nothing about it. "I kept getting this from animal control: ‘We don't have an ordinance. There's nothing we can do,'" she said.

Tuft kept bugging city officials until the man moved. He was then charged with animal abuse in Riverton.

Now Tuft and the top Bluffdale animal control official are hoping to get tough on people who abuse large animals. They've written up a brand new ordinance and handed it to the city attorney. "You know, just basic care, quality of life for these animals," she said.

She hopes the city council will pass it, or else she will keep pestering them. "I won't back down from a fight," Tuft said.
