Becky Bruce reportingPolice in Roy arrested a woman this morning in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Police say a minivan driven by a woman struck a motorcycle in the intersection of 5700 South and 1900 West in Roy just after 9 p.m. yesterday. The motorcycle rider was airlifted to the hospital, where he later died. Police identify him as Jeff Speer, who they say was in his 50s.

Woman arrested in fatal hit-and-run

Police this morning arrested 24-year-old Mercury Vongsengxay. She's believed to have been driving the vehicle seen fleeing the scene.

She was arrested after contacting her parole officer, who contacted police. She is now being interviewed by investigators. Court records show she was scheduled to appear in traffic court in Layton later this month on a charge of driving on a suspended license.
