WELLS, Nev. — A Utah man died after the semitruck he was driving on I-80 near Wells experienced a tire blowout, causing the truck to veer and overturn on July 8, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Curtis Vernon Okelberry, 60, of West Bountiful, was driving a maroon 2016 Freightliner Cascadia semitruck on I-80 near the interchange with state Route 233, according to a NHP news release.
The semitruck's left front steer tire blew out and caused the vehicle to veer off the left side of the road, NHP officials said. The semitruck crossed the center median into westbound travel lanes and overturned.
Okelberry sustained fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene, according to the release.
Both westbound lanes of I-80 were closed during the crash investigation.
