SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man who police say told them he was looking for a prostitute but thought it would be easier to grab a woman he saw sleeping near a convenience store is now facing felony charges.
Jesse Hannssel Orozco-Galicia, 37, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and object rape, first-degree felonies; and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.
About 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 18, Orozco-Galicia was at a Salt Lake convenience store when he saw a woman sleeping on the grass near the corner of 1000 West and North Temple. He would later tell detectives that he was "looking for a prostitute prior to locating (the woman) in the grass. Orozco-Galicia admitted that he thought it would be easier to have sex with (her) because of the way he found her lying on the ground," according to charging documents.
Orozco-Galicia picked up the woman, whom he had never met, put her into the back of his car and sped away, according to a police booking affidavit.
"(The woman) stated that Orozco-Galicia told her they were going to have sex. Orozco-Galicia eventually stopped the car and tried to pull down (her) pants, but (the woman) fought and kicked him in the throat," the charges state.
The woman was able to get away from Orozco-Galicia, who was arrested the next day.
