OGDEN — An Ogden man faces criminal charges accusing him of stalking his ex-girlfriend and distributing dozens of explicit photographs of her in retaliation for breaking up with him.
Police say the photos were copied onto flyers with the woman's name printed atop and were placed on more than 75 cars over three days at a gym where she has a membership, at a nearby family activity center, and on telephone poles near her home.
Anthony Mark Pino, 45, was charged Monday in two different 2nd District Court cases with two counts of stalking, a third-degree felony; two counts of unlawful distribution of an intimate image, a class A misdemeanor; interference with an arresting officer and violation of a jail release agreement, class B misdemeanors.
The woman said she broke up with Pino on Feb. 8 and told him she did not want to communicate anymore with him. But police say Pino continued to contact her, even showing up at her home with her name newly tattooed on him. After obtaining a stalking injunction against him, Pino sent her explicit screenshots of her that she had sent to him during their yearlong relationship with a threatening message that said, "I suggest (you) think twice before proceeding forward with certain things. If you want to be mean and play dirty, let's play," according to charging documents.
On March 4, police were called to the Front Climbing Club, 225 20th Street, on a report that explicit flyers had been placed on multiple nearby vehicles. Employees at the gym had gathered up as many of the flyers as they could find on vehicles parked nearby and at a family activity center, charging documents state. The woman's name appeared in big letters atop the explicit photographs.
The "collage of pornography" was placed on more than 25 cars on March 4, on at least 50 cars on March 5 and on telephone poles near the woman's home on March 6, a police booking affidavit states. Police also said some of the flyers were distributed near a school and a church and in areas where children often walk.
The woman told police she had only sent the photographs to Pino and no one else.
After distributing the flyers, Pino sent the woman messages that "included phrasing such as, 'You are forever going to regret betraying me,'" another affidavit states.
Police say Pino resisted arrested after they served a search warrant at his home on March 6. When he was booked into the Weber County Jail, he was required to sign a jail release agreement stating he would not contact his alleged victim either directly or indirectly. But just 43 minutes later, Pino made a phone call to the ex-girlfriend that was "immediately rejected," a police affidavit states. Pino allegedly told jailers he was calling a family member.
"Anthony has spent the last month harassing the victim. Previous reports indicate that he threatened the victim that if she continued her stalking injunction against him, he would release the images documented in this case. Anthony also has previous charges for tampering with a witness, as well as domestic violence assault. I believe if Anthony is released on bail, he could seriously hurt or kill our victim, as well as the other witnesses or involved parties in the pending cases," Ogden police wrote in another affidavit, asking that Pino be held without bail.
