Greg Neft, KSL NewsradioWe are halfway through the fire season, and Utah officials say the outlook doesn't look good.

It may not be a surprise, but this fire season is on track for a dubious honor. Jim Springer with the Division of Forestry says it may go down as the worst year for fires.

Springer says 85 to 90 percent of the fires are human-caused, but he expects that to go down as lightning strikes increase.

"We've had one fire this year that's already burned more acreage than all of the acreage in 2006," says Springer.

He says you have to go back 11 years to find another comparable fire season.
