SALT LAKE CITY -- If you use an iPhone, chances are you may use an application that has been dreamed up right here in Utah.
Applications including movie showtimes, tracking business miles, Braille, phone directories, and rivalry football programs were thought up and created in Utah. Jason Izatt with Izatt International in Provo has six apps in the iTunes store.
"Apple has created this fantastic model, in which a whole new cottage industry has been able to grow up around," he said.
Izatt teaches others about how to create their own app, as well.
"It's really quite exciting to see what they can do. In fact I got an e-mail (sales@izatt.com) this morning from one of my March students who has three new apps coming in the next few weeks," he said.
Several other Utah companies, including FamilyLink.com and Avantar, also are doing well. Izatt thinks it's due to Utah's incredible entrepreneurial spirit.
"I think over the last year as the iPhone and iPod Touch have really caught on, many people have seen that there is a great opportunity there to tap into," he said.
