PRICE, Utah (AP) -- A report commissioned by the state Board of Regents says the College of Eastern Utah should affiliate with Utah State University in an effort to include four-year university programs.
The report's author, Michael Petersen, a former CEU president who now heads the Utah Education Network, says it's a reasonable trade off for the college to sacrifice some autonomy so it can become a regional university.
Petersen says CEU can better serve southeastern Utah with a mission that's broader than that of a community college.
However, the two-year college's trustees are doubtful that the proposal addresses declining enrollment and other challenges.
Trustees Chairman Neal Peacock calls the proposal a spending plan, not a savings plan.
