SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A gaping hole in the heart of Salt Lake City's trendy Sugar House neighborhood is now nearly full of dirt.

City officials had named Sunday as the deadline for developer Craig Mecham to fill in the crater.

Mecham says he's still looking for financing for a planned seven-story office building with shops and restaurants on the ground floor. The bad economy put the project on hold and a deep crater on the lot stirred controversy.

Crews used dirt from the construction site of the new Utah Museum of Natural History near Red Butte Canyon to fill up about 90 percent of the hole.

Frank Gray, the city's community and economic development director, says he's hoping the project will move ahead once the economy improves.
