(KSL News) West Valley City police on Saturday arrested a man who is suspected of trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl in January.

Officers had an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Alberto Alejandro Guadarrama of West Valley for attempted child kidnapping.

In the early-morning hours of Jan. 18, a man entered a Sandy home near 10300 South and Peony Way and tried to take an 11-year-old girl out of bed while her friend was sleeping on the top bunk. She started to scream and fight. That awakened the girl on the top bunk. She got up and turned the lights on, startling the man. He ran from the house, leaving some items behind.

Detectives say the items led them to get an arrest warrant for Guadarrama. Officers located and arrested him around noon Saturday in West Valley. He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

Lt. Don Hutson of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was "known to the family," but wouldn't elaborate. He says it was not a randomly-committed crime.
