HOOPER, Weber County — A fire that began on Fremont Island in the Great Salt Lake on Wednesday was fully contained Friday morning after burning 190 acres, according to Utah Fire Info.

The blaze grew to an estimated 60 acres on its first day, though Utah Fire Info said rainfall helped slow the spread.

Ground crews accessed the island by boat while air support flew in to tackle the fire, which Utah Fire Info said was caused by lightning.

Utah Fire Info said crews used a "dip site" for air support to collect water to pour on the fire, as the high salinity of the Great Salt Lake prevented aircraft from using the lake's water to fight the fire.
