WEST VALLEY CITY — A 22-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in West Valley that he offered a ride.

Mario Medina was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with rape of a child and sodomy on a child, first-degree felonies.

According to charging documents, on Dec. 1, Medina spotted a 12-year-old girl walking alone and offered her a ride.

"(He) coerced the 12-year-old victim into having sex with him in exchange for a ride," the charges state.

Prosecutors say Medina is currently being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Louisiana.

"In this matter, the state requests a no-bail warrant to ensure the defendant's appearance in court," according to court documents.

No other details were immediately available.
