PERRY, Box Elder County — A 22-year-old man is dead after a crash on I-15 near Perry early Thursday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden said that just before 2 a.m., an initial call reported a vehicle driving southbound on I-15 at a high rate of speed and without any lights.

The caller eventually discovered the car, which had crashed off the right shoulder of the road.

Roden said the man driving sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

"As investigators looked, it appeared that they may have hit another vehicle in the far right lane, but that vehicle did not stop. We think it possibly could've been the rear of a semi," Roden said. "A couple hours later, the driver of the semi called in, and troopers have made contact with them in the Ogden area."

UHP said the crash is under investigation.
