SALT LAKE CITY — Broadway is returning to downtown Salt Lake City with what many theater fans are calling the strongest lineup in the history of Broadway at the Eccles.
The 2026–27 Broadway at the Eccles season includes six productions making their Salt Lake City debut, giving Utah theatergoers a chance to experience Broadway's newest hits without leaving home. The lineup includes two Tony Award-winning best new musicals and a blockbuster theatrical event with "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
"This is hands down the best season the Eccles has ever had," said Todd Frandsen, who is an eight-year Broadway at the Eccles season ticket holder. "I live in Idaho Falls, and it's definitely worth the drive for this lineup. I'm especially excited that the Eccles is bringing in newer shows so I can save money by not having to take a trip to New York to see them."
Kicking off the new season is "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" (Sept. 19 to Oct. 11), the record-breaking stage production that continues the story of the famous wizard 19 years after the events of the original book series. The play won six Tony Awards, including best play, and is known for its elaborate stage illusions and special effects.
New Broadway hit "The Outsiders" (Nov. 10 to 15) brings S.E. Hinton's coming-of-age novel to the stage, telling the story of Ponyboy Curtis and the Greasers as they navigate friendship, loyalty and life in 1960s Oklahoma. It won the Tony Award in 2024 for Best Musical.

Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" (Dec. 8 to 19) is the first tour of the beloved animated film presented by Disney in North America in more than 25 years. It includes familiar songs from the movie to the stage, such as "Be Our Guest" and "Tale as Old as Time," along with elaborate new costumes and choreography.
The season also includes "Buena Vista Social Club" (Jan. 26 to 31, 2027), a musical inspired by the Grammy Award-winning album that celebrates Cuban music and culture through the story of the musicians who made it famous.
British hit "Operation Mincemeat" (March 2 to 7, 2027) brings a true World War II story to the stage in a fast-paced musical comedy about an unlikely spy mission that helped change the course of history.
New musical "Maybe Happy Ending" (April 27 to May 2, 2027) tells the story of an unexpected encounter that sparks connection, adventure and love. The production won six Tony Awards in 2025, including best musical.
Classic musical theater fans will welcome the return of "The Sound of Music" (June 15 to 20, 2027), featuring songs such as "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." The production tells the story of Maria and the von Trapp family as they find love and courage in the shadow of war.
Rounding out the season is "The Great Gatsby" (July 27 to Aug. 1, 2027), a new musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's American classic that brings the Roaring Twenties, romance and tragedy to the stage.
Two fan favorites return as season add-ons: "Beetlejuice" (Jan. 5 to 10, 2027), based on the Tim Burton film, and "Six" (May 12 to 16, 2027), which gives the six wives of Henry VIII the spotlight in a pop concert-style musical.
"Broadway at the Eccles is more than entertainment — it's a live shared experience that brings people throughout Utah together and adds so much vibrancy to downtown Salt Lake City," said Victor Hamburger, vice president of the Mountain Region for Broadway Across America. "This season's extraordinary lineup, from new hits to cherished classics, ensures there's something for everyone to enjoy. With nine incredible musicals and a blockbuster magical event like no other with 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,' the live theater coming to Salt Lake City is better than ever."
