MOUNTAIN GREEN, Morgan County — A glider pilot died Friday in a crash at Mahogany Mountain that sparked a small fire.

The incident occurred about 2 p.m. Friday above Bohmann Ranch in Mountain Green at about 7,000 feet, according to the Mountain Green Fire Protection District. The pilot was killed in the crash, which sparked the fire.

Morgan County Fire Warden Dave Vickers called for a full wildland fire response, which brought in federal resources, including the U.S. Forest Service Helitack stationed at the Mountain Green airport.

The Helitack crew confirmed the crash, while fire crews were able to hold the blaze to just 3 acres.

It also was part of a busy day for Mountain Green firefighters, as Brush Truck 131 blew a tire and suffered undercarriage damage while descending from the crash site, the first district said. It took several hours to tow the brush truck down the mountain before firefighters called it a day at 1:30 a.m.

No other information was released about the pilot.
