THE FOREST — Hybrids can be amazing things. I'm a huge fan of northern pike and used to catch them all the time when I lived in Pennsylvania. Muskies are another of my favorite fish from the Keystone State. I hooked one at Lake Wallenpaupack that was so big it nearly pulled me right off the dock.
Put those two species together and what do you get? A striped torpedo called a tiger muskie. This hybrid species, which is found in multiple places in Utah, is one of the coolest fish you'll ever see. Other awesome hybrid examples include ligers, narlugas, grolar bears and camera phones.
After seeing this video, however, I have to add steam-powered log haulers to the list. Part train and part tank — totally awesome.
This strange-looking contraption was used in the early 1900s to move trees around during logging operations. The vehicle in this video has a 20-ton engine. It was restored by the Maine Forest and Logging Museum, and they fire it up for special events.
Apparently, there are a handful of these old log haulers left in the northeast. I'd definitely love to check one out next time I'm in that part of the country.
