OGDEN — The annual spectacle featuring fireworks and a performance of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture returns to the Weber State University campus on Sunday.
The Lindquist Family Symphony Pops Concert and Fireworks show, now in its 45th year, is set for Sunday and starts at 9 p.m. Thousands typically attend the free event, filling green spaces of the Weber State campus in Ogden to listen to music and watch the pyrotechnics.
Music by the New American Philharmonic starts at 9 p.m., and one of the featured pieces will be the 1812 Overture, with a battery of cannons near the finale provided by the Cannoneers of the Wasatch.
"Listening to the crowd react after the last shot is cool for us to hear," Charles Freshman, president of the Cannoneers of the Wasatch, said in a press release. "It's about getting together with people we like who have common interests. Kind of the same reason people are on that lawn at Weber and come year after year."
The fireworks show will follow the music at about 10 p.m.
On-campus parking and seating is available but limited. Parking lots A1 and A10 will be closed beginning Saturday at 9 a.m., and the interior part of campus will be closed to vehicles all weekend. Many people sprawl on blankets in grassy areas of the campus.
The event is sponsored by John E. Lindquist of Lindquist Mortuaries and Cemeteries in Ogden.
