IVINS, Washington County — If people locally aren't aware of the scope of the announcement that the PGA Tour is coming to Ivins, the governor of Utah made it clear Friday.
Equating it to the Olympics and the NBA All-Star Game coming to the state, Gov. Spencer Cox said Friday during a noon press conference at Black Desert Resort that the PGA Tour coming to Ivins is not just a big deal for southern Utah but for the whole state.
While not providing an exact date, the PGA Tour announced formally that it will hold its first tournament at Ivins' Black Desert Resort in the fall of 2024, adding a previously announced stop by the women's LPGA on the same course in May 2025.
"To get the best golfers in the world here, that's something we haven't been able to do. And now we're doing it," Cox told St. George News after the press conference. "I mean, a year from now we're going to have the best golfers in the world right here in Utah. To have Black Desert be a special place that can host both is something really special for southern Utah."
