PALISADE STATE PARK — A man drowned at Palisade State Park on Saturday, a park official confirmed.

Eighteen-year-old Alejandro Morales, from Goshen, was swimming when weather conditions began to deteriorate, according to park spokesman Devan Chavez.

Morales went underwater. When he did not resurface some of those who were present called 911, Chavez said.

Park rangers and Sanpete County sheriff deputies responded to a report of a drowning in progress at 5 p.m.

Morales was transported to Gunnison Valley Hospital where he later died.

He was not wearing a lifejacket, the park official said. The area where he was pulled out had 15 to 20 feet of water. The water temperature was approximately 65 Fahrenheit.
