SALT LAKE CITY — An enlisted airman with the U.S. Air Force stationed at Hill Air Force Base has been arrested and accused of stealing a rifle from a warehouse in Salt Lake City.

Christopher Thomas Xaros, 22, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday for investigation of theft of a firearm.

Salt Lake police were notified that a Tikka TX3 rifle was stolen from a pallet at a warehouse at 2900 W. California Ave. "Surveillance video showed (Xaros) taking the rifle from the pallet and smuggling it out of the warehouse," according to a police booking affidavit.

Police say Xaros is an employee of the warehouse and was identified by the manager.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the investigation, which included search warrants being served on Xaros' apartment and vehicle.

A spokesman with Hill Air Force Base confirmed Friday that Xaros is part of the 388th Fighter Wing. On his LinkedIn page, Xaros says he has been an avionics technician for four years, and has experience with F-35s. Hill said it was too early to say whether Xaros might face any disciplinary action.
