West Valley police seek public's help finding man in shooting death

WEST VALLEY CITY — Police in West Valley City are asking for the public's help in finding a person of interest in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man earlier this week.

Xavier Bernal, 20, was shot and killed at the Redwood apartments, 4000 S. Redwood Road, on Tuesday. West Valley police on Saturday identified a person of interest as Dylan Gregorio Upshaw. The 21-year-old is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 pounds and has dark brown hair and brown eyes.

In a news release, West Valley police said investigators believe that Upshaw and Bernal met outside of the apartment complex Tuesday evening when the shooting took place. Upshaw is a resident at the apartment complex along with his girlfriend, Aracely Hernandez Guzman, who is believed to be with him as she has not been seen since the night of the shooting.
