MONTICELLO — A Utah Highway Patrol trooper charged with sexual abuse and exposing himself to children has pleaded guilty to three charges and will serve 30 months of probation.

Bryan Bruce Adams, 45, of Monticello, pleaded guilty as part of a plea in abeyance to three counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. If Adams completes probation and follows other terms of the agreement, the convictions will be reduced to sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.

A plea in abeyance allows someone to plead guilty or no contest, but have that plea potentially suspended after some time. If certain conditions are met, the case can be dismissed or charges reduced.

He was initially charged in April with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and two counts of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor. An amended complaint with the new charges was filed on Nov. 28, the day he pleaded guilty and was sentenced.

Charging documents claim he exposed himself to three children or teenagers and touched two of them inappropriately.

Adams was placed on leave beginning March 13, 2022, after the UHP received a complaint while they began an internal investigation. UHP said he resigned on April 11, shortly before the charges were filed against him.
