Big Daddy's Pizza reopens after car crashes through building

MIDVALE — A Midvale pizza shop is back in business three months after a car drove through the front entrance.

Two employees at Big Daddy's Pizza — located at 7669 S. 700 East — were hurt. One was hit by the car while the other was hit by a countertop.

It was the night of July 22 when the car, driven by a young man in his 20s, came smashing through the front entrance, sending glass and debris flying everywhere. The driver told employees his foot got stuck on the gas and couldn't apply the brake.

The car also hit employee Felipe Diaz who had just returned from a delivery. He broke his leg and hurt his back, neck and head.

A pizza shop employee hit by a car while inside the store is feeling very lucky to be alive.

Biplove Timilsina, who owns the store, says he still has flashbacks of that day.

"It was terrible," he said. "I have nightmares about the video. My employees getting crushed right here."

He said the rebuild has not been easy. It took nearly three months just to get the front entryway ordered and put in. Now comes the challenge of trying to get back those regular customers who have been going elsewhere for pizza for the past three months.

"We just did a test run last weekend. Business was down 80%. It is humongous," Timilsina said. "There's other pizza places they went there, but we make good pizza. We provide good service. We've been here almost 15 years, so please come back. We are ready to serve you guys."
