PLEASANT VIEW, Weber County — A driver was critically injured early Tuesday after hitting a concrete barrier and then being hit by a semitruck on I-15 in Pleasant View, troopers said.

About 1:38 a.m., a Toyota Corolla was traveling north on I-15 when the driver "for an unknown reason" moved to the left and hit the center divider, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden.

The car then overcorrected back to the right, causing it to rotate and come to a stop near the right lane facing east, Roden said. A semitruck that had been traveling nearby began to slow its speed as it saw the car crash, but it was unable to stop before it hit the Toyota.

The semitruck hit the car's passenger side doors, pushing the car off the right shoulder.

The driver of the Toyota, its only occupant, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Troopers believe the man is from Boise.

Neither of the semitruck's two occupants were injured, Roden said.

First responders received initial reports that a second occupant was in the Toyota, but they were unable to find anyone else after an "exhaustive" search, according to the sergeant.

The crash remains under investigation.
